Somebody’s Caught Up: Dolce & Gabbana Creates “Offensive” Earrings + D&G Responds to the Criticism

I hope Dolce & Gabbana didn’t think they going to slide right by without being called-out on their choice of earrings, because this is actually offensive fellas. Refinery 29 first broke the story about the subliminally racist “Mammy” earrings Dolce & Gabbana had their models flaunt during their Spring 2013 collection in Milan earlier this week.
Dolce & Gabbana responded to the criticism by writing a post on their Swide.com site about the history of moorish’ heads ceramics — the art they got their inspiration from.
After the ridiculous incident with Vogue Italia’s “slave earrings” and their Haute Mess cover story (both situations head editor Franca Sozzani apologized for) , People are getting bolder by the day. I wasn’t too surprise by this, but I’m still shaking my head.
If you’re going to get inspiration from a certain culture that isn’t your own, it’s safe to say you possibly need to warn people first because it can cause a riot of complaints.
